Essays on Post-disaster Social Entrepreneurship: Founders, Beneficiaries and the Process of Effectuation

    Student thesis: Doctoral Thesis

    Abstract

In three essays, I investigate the emergence and impact of social enterprises (SEs) in post-disaster contexts. In the first essay, I propound a novel process model on how social entrepreneurs develop opportunities to alleviate victim suffering. In the second, I conduct an inductive study on how they develop opportunities over time, from initial disaster aftermath to a few years after the calamity. In the final essay, I explore the impact of SEs on beneficiaries as seen from their perspective. The essays contribute to the theory of effectuation, contest the institutional void thesis and offer policy implications for post-disaster management.
