This dissertation focuses on the writing of Li Qingzhao (1084-1155?), Zhu Shuzhen (dates unknown) and Zhangyuniang (dates unknown). It explores the sense of competition transmitted by women writers in their writing according to the ideas of writing mentality, their works, and the dissemination. This dissertation finds that some works manifest the peculiar contradiction of women writers in the struggle between "talent" and "untalented", its psychological manifestation is self-blame or guilt under the restraint of moral norms. On the one hand, some works by women writers tried to escape the risk of being blamed in unprecedented ways by expressing guilty or emphasizing their adherence to tradition. On the other hand, These women writers inherited the literature tradition, created a large number of poems and ci by choosing more themes, and they demonstrated their sense of writing competition through rewriting or innovating classic works which were written by outstanding predecessors. These women writers inherited the literature tradition, mainly held by male literati. Women’s writing in the Song Dynasty was restricted and affected by social concepts, literary creation, and literary historical traditions. The writings of the three women writers, Li Qingzhao, Zhu Shuzhen, and Zhang Yuniang, show us their responses and breakthroughs to these issues.
