Abstract
The fabrication of a novel heterojunction nanoribbon composed of two side-by-side ribbons of ZnS and ZnO with unique crystallographic structure and high-quality crystallinity was reported. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), selected-area electron diffraction (SAED), and energy-dispersive x-ray spectrometry (EDS) were used to characterized the microstructure and composition of the products. It was observed that most of nanoribbons were composed of two side-by-side ribbons of different contrast. The EDS elemental analysis showed that left ribbon contained only Zn and S with an atomic ratio of 1:1, while the right ribbon contained only Zn and O with an atomic ratio of 1:1. Gold was pre-deposited onto the Si wafer substrate as a catalyst to accelerate the growth process. This method demonstrated the possibility of producing high quality crystalline heterostructures.
