Abstract
The design and radiation characteristics of a wideband quarter-wave patch antenna with shorting pin are presented. By the introduction of a shorting pin to the quarter-wave patch antenna with air substrate thickness of 0.08λ0, the antenna impedance bandwidth can be increased from 6.4% to 20.7%. The far field radiation pattern has a maximum gain 4.1 dBi occurring at θ = -58° from the broadside direction. Detailed study based on simulation software IE3D is presented. The results show good agreement with measurements.
