Abstract

In this paper, two designs of magneto-electric (ME) dipole antennas based on the microstrip line feed are proposed for the millimeter-waves applications. The L-shaped probe connecting the microstrip line is utilized to feed the ME dipole antenna. An additional mushroom-like electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) layer is mounted below the microstrip line to decrease the backlobes. Wide impedance bandwidth of over 44% with stable realized gain and unidirectional radiation pattern is obtained. Since the microstrip line is employed as the feed line, the proposed antenna is suitable for packaging with integrated circuits for the 5G and beyond systems.
