Abstract
This research presents a theoretical implementation of a wideband open resonator antenna (ORA) using an impedance surface acting as a ground plane. The impedance surface realization is based on the Bessel filter design methodology. It will be shown that the proposed methodology provides an alternative approach to design ORA without using complicated structures. Our proposed ORA design shows significant improvement in the 3dB gain bandwidth — 24.7 % — with a peak gain of 16.9 dBi. Simulated results are shown and compared with the ORA design with discretized metallic and flat ground.
