Wide-angle polymeric Y-junction using gradient-index (GRIN) zones

Abstract

We propose a new class of Y-junctions based on wavefront processing to facilitate phase matching during branching. This is achieved by grading the lateral index profile of the waveguides. Simulations show that, at 85% power transmission, when compared to an all step-profile truncated-structural Y-branch (TSYB) that we proposed earlier, it widens the full branching angle by 1.5°.
