Abstract
There are several established methodologies for the analysis of electroacoustic music, but colour association may not have been previously employed. Using a non-verbal interface such as colour might allow analysists and composers to gain a broader understanding of how music affects listeners generally. This understanding might stimulate the design of multisensorial experiences, as well as facilitate richer feedback methods for use in therapy and education. In the present pilot experiment, participants (n=19) continuously matched colour to au-dio stimuli from nine pieces, some well-known within the genre. A preliminary statistical analysis revealed signifi-cant associations between response parameters and mu-sical features, especially between green-to-red colour dimension and timbre. Further analysis is ongoing and more results will be presented at the conference. The paper discusses results in a perspective of ecological perception and listening modes.
