Abstract
Web Assignment Tools (WAT) is an Internet-based courseware for creating and managing online questions/problems for engineering students as their homework or assignments. WAT was developed recently in an attempt to make up the inadequacy of commonly available education courseware, such as WebCT and BlackBoard, for engineering education. This paper outlines features of WAT pertinent to Engineering education. The features are illustrated through problems in an engineering foundation course - Structural Mechanics. Applications of WAT in engineering education and the impact on teaching and on student learning are then discussed. Results from student surveys and feedbacks relating the use of WAT are also presented.
