Abstract

As a new wireless network access technology, IEEE 802.16 can provide broadband Internet connection to user. Five types of services that can provide QoS support for a wide range of applications had been defined in IEEE 802.16 standards. Recently, some papers had discussed the QoS architecture of WiMAX, but little attention had been thrown to nrtPS and BE services. In this paper, a novel waiting queue based bandwidth allocation architecture had been proposed to improve the performance of nrtPS and BE services without any impaction to the others. We evaluated the proposed architecture with truncated binary exponential backoff which is the mandatory scheme for collision avoiding in the standards. The analysis and simulations results show this architecture greatly improves the QoS of nrtPS and BE services in IEEE 802.16 network. © 2008 IEEE.
