The vibration of circular plates supported by combinations of ring and line supports and which are carrying concentrated masses is investigated (for the first time, to the author's knowledge) by using the newly developed pb-2 Rayleigh-Ritz method. A set of Ritz functions consisting of the product of the boundary expressions is used as the admissible displacement function. This set of pb-2 Ritz functions can accurately approximate the mode shapes of these circular plates with any prescribed boundary conditions and interior supports such as eccentric annular and/or line supports. To validate the present method, numerical calculations have been carried out for several simplified plate problems and these are compared with those results available in the literature. Excellent agreement is achieved in all cases. © 1992.
