Abstract

This text presents some analysis of results obtained by several nondestructive methods to control damage as acoustic emission, surface ultrasonic cartography, ultrasonic velocity, stiffness modification of material. These methods are used during four points bending fatigue tests on AS9G+20% SiCp aluminium matrix composite (AMC). The analysis of results shows that these methods give an account of different damage states for specimens, and so, these methods seem to be complementary. The interpretation of results and microstructural analysis of failure put in relation some physical mechanisms as dislocations moves, voids created, crash failure, stiffness modification with descriptive aspects produced by these nondestructive methods (acoustic emission, surface ultrasonic waves). © 2000 Éditions scientifiques et médicales Elsevier SAS.
