Abstract

Co-production is an integral part of collective efforts aiming to achieve sustainability transitions. In this article, we performed bibliometric analysis on the 10,324 publications about co-production in sustainability transition collected from Web of Science and Scopus. Using VOSviewer and other tools, we revealed the research trends. We found the number of publications in the 2010s has boomed, especially since 2015, when the Paris Agreement was signed and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals were set to be reached by 2030. Our analysis of author keywords identified changes in the research focuses across different time periods. Furthermore, the following 8 thematic clusters emerged from the text analysis of abstracts: “environmental sustainability”, “social sustainability”, “economics and business”, “energy”, “urban development”, “citizen science”, “politics”, and “stakeholder participation”. By relating to the contexts, we also discovered challenges faced, important issues emerged, and solutions found in making sustainability transitions.
