Abstract
Xiao Jun became a renowned left-wing writer in China in 1935, after the publication of his first novel Village in August, which was prefaced by Lu Xun and later introduced to western readers by Edgar Snow. In the early 1980s, as younger scholars and university students raised heated discussions about literary trends before the 1960s, he was invited to many forums. While working on a documentary about him titled Writing Four Seasons, the author received access to some of these recordings that lend insight to today's scholars about writers' fate in China before and after 1949.
