Abstract

To keep a safe international environment, China has started to aid the developing countries in the 1950s. More than 1500 buildings are built in more than 160 countries of five continents. Among these exported buildings, more than 200 conference halls and theaters, categorized as ‘auditorium’, stand proudly in the capital cities of Asia, Africa, Latin America and Oceania. They reflect a combination of Chinese modern and regional architecture, and supplement the practice of tropical modernism. This project investigates the general situation of China’s aided auditorium construction. Typical works of the 1970s, 1990s and 21st century are highlighted.
