An unsplit-field perfectly matched layer (UPML) medium is introduced for higher-order alternating direction implicit (ADI) formulation of the FDTD Method. By applying the proposed formulation, no field splitting is required for implementing higher-order ADI-FDTD PML; thus, the unconditionally stable nature of ADI-FDTD is remained. The results of 2D simulation are used to illustrate the effectiveness of the PML medium, which is constructed using the proposed approach as an absorber for numerical grid truncation © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
