Abstract

The Internet has made up the shortcoming of traditional right-defending ways, enabling netizens to openlyand effectively protect their rights and interests. This study explores the cognitive pathways of participating in online right-defending actions from the perspective of social cognitive theory. The 2017 Chinese General Social Survey data showed that Internet self-efficacy fully mediated the positive relationship between people's Internet consumption and online right-defending behaviors. Moreover, people's privacy concern is positively related to their online right-defending engagement and moderate the relationship between online self-efficacy and right-defending participation.
