Abstract

This paper proposes a novel time-modulated leaky-wave antenna (LWA) for high-gain and beam scanning applications. The LWA is modulated periodically by switching on-off the unit cell in a pre-designed time sequence. We utilize the time modulation to achieve an equivalent sinusoidal amplitude distribution along the length of the antenna aperture at the center frequency to generate high-directivity radiation beams. The time-modulated LWA is implemented based on substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) operating at 27 GHz. Experimental results demonstrate the concept and effectiveness of the proposed time-modulated LWA.
