Tidal Oscillations in the Aegean and Ionian Seas

Research output: Journal Publications and ReviewsRGC 21 - Publication in refereed journalpeer-review

Abstract

Harmonic constants are estimated by analysing tidal observations from 20 ports in the Aegean and the Ionian Seas, areas where no similar data were available so far. The analysis is based on tidal records 7 years long. The resulting values for the M2 constituent are compared with the results of a hydrodynamic-numerical model of the M2 tide for the Mediterranean Sea. The qualitative agreement between the observations and the model indicates that in spite of the complex topography of the Aegean Sea the major features of the tidal propagation could be retrieved through the model, if better tuned.
