Thermo-optic switchable mode multiplexer based on cascaded vertical waveguide directional couplers

Abstract

We design and fabricate a thermo-optic switchable three-mode (de)multiplexer with two cascaded vertical polymer-waveguide directional couplers. At 1550 nm, the switching power required is ∼20 mW and the response time is ∼3 ms.
