Abstract

“The Taste of Missing” is a participatory installation. Food is a source of happiness for many people and can instantly satisfy physical and mental needs. When they leave home and go to a different place, they will naturally compare the similarities and differences in the food between the two places. This comparison enhances their understanding of their homes and the new environment, making them more aware of the distinct characteristics of both places. Phoebe Man used overlapping images and words to express her food memories in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Audiences can also use food coloring sheets to share their emotions and imaginations about food.
