Abstract
As AI-assisted journalism rises, understanding audience responses to AI involvement and visual framing is critical. Using a 3×3 between-subject survey experiment (n = 551), we show that citizen-centered visuals increase negative emotion, while AI-human tandem authorship moderates effects on news elaboration and information seeking. These findings extend media effects theory by revealing how AI authorship interacts with visual framing, shaping cognitive, emotional, and behavioral responses in multimodal news consumption.
