The Oxford Handbook of Gender and Classifiers

Grammatical gender and classifiers are linguistic means to categorize or classify the nominal system of a language. Many languages have a grammatical gender or classifier system; others have neither; some have both. Scientific interest in grammatical gender and classifiers has steadily increased over the past decades, reflected by the wealth of publications on this topic in recent years. This Handbook aims to reflect the state of the art of linguistic research on grammatical gender and classifiers in theoretical and experimental domains, as well as typologically. The Handbook is subdivided into four parts: linguistic theory, language acquisition, representation and processing, and typology.
