Abstract
The views of Charles Zhang, founder, chairman, and chief executive of Sohu.com, on the importance of internet in accelerating the transformation of Chinese society are discussed. According to him, internet is helping Chinese society become more informed and empowered. With greater access to information, the Chinese people have become more sophisticated, more independent thinkers, and more likely to be active on issues that affect them. Moreover, as state-owned enterprises restructure themselves and deregulation continues, there will be more intense competition in the Chinese market.
