Abstract

Chapter AbstractBy Ni ChenIn the information era, communication has proven to be the coin of the realm. No economic/political goal can be reached, no position secured, no policy advanced, no issue managed, no image/reputation enhanced, or crisis controlled in the absence of effective communication. Embed in this belief, Chinese government established its “spokesperson system” as part of the efforts toward the institutionalization of government communication. Though an important step, little literature in English can be found. By examining system’s origin, evolution, structure and function, this chapter attempts to fill the void. In addition, recent cases are used for discussion and elaboration.
