Abstract
It is demonstrated that when a symmetric amplitude-modulated RF pulse applied in the presence of a linear static magnetic field gradient is used for either spin inversion or phase reversal, the longitudinal magnetization distribution in the former case and the echo amplitude distribution in the latter case, have similar shapes as functions of off resonance frequency. This result makes it clear that if a symmetric amplitude-modulated selective pulse performs well for spin inversion, then it can also be used for phase reversal to form an echo, and that the design criteria for both functions are equivalent. © 1987.
