Abstract

Distributed measurement and control is a large field which has been receiving much attention in the past years. This is the topic of this paper in which the development and implementation of a low-cost measurement network is discussed. While not based on new technologies, this paper brings forth some novel aspects such as the securing of the communications on the industrial network as well as the reduction in cost by implementation on embedded processors. Most systems that have been developed are aimed at large companies with equally large budgets, whereas the system described here is aimed at the small business and cost-conscious consumer. © 2003 IEEE
