Abstract

The analysis of a novel dead-time generation and compensation method for 2-level pulse width modulated (PWM) inverters is presented. The dead-time is produced by simply changing the slope of the triangular switching carrier. The duration of the dead-time is self-adjusted dependent upon the instantaneous voltages of the input reference signal and the switching carrier. With the consideration of the phase shift caused by the output lowpass filter, a compensation approach has been developed to suppress the spectral distortions due to both dead-time and phase shift. Extensive simulations have been carried out to verify the validity of the proposed method.
