Abstract
This paper compares the adaptation process of three Hong Kong manufacturing firms as they moved their production facilities to China. The movement of production facilities to China represents the general pattern of Hong Kong manufacturing firms. Based on the varying experience of three case studies that represent firms utilizing different strategies as well as on the environmental conditions facing all firms, the paper traces and describes factors that contribute to the relative success of the transition. Both general and firm specific variables are identified.
