Abstract

A terahertz (THz) beam splitter with forward and backward radiation beams is demonstrated. Unlike the conventional wire-grid polarizers, the proposed splitter can controlled the beam directions in two sides independently. The element of the splitter is composed of 4 metallic layers, which is supported by two substrate layers and separated by an air gap. In each element, two strips with backed wire-grid polarizers are utilized to control the reflected phase. Meanwhile, the transmission phase is controlled by the V-shaped structure with two orthogonal gratings below and above it. Then, numerous results of the designed THz splitter show that two polarization components can be efficiently separated into the directions of 165° and 25°, respectively.
