Abstract
This paper describes an experiment in which the Survey Corpus was tagged at the Survey of English Usage with the automatic tagging program, AUTASYS. In this experiment the LOB tags were converted to those used in the International Corpus of English. The experiment proved successful, with an accuracy rate of 96-97%. This paper first outlines some of the differences and similarities between the two tagsets and then discusses some major problems encountered in the conversion. © 1994 Oxford University Press.
