Abstract
Interaction of Re(NBut)3(NHBut) and CF3SO3H in Et2O leads to the known [Re(NBut)3(NH2But)]O3SCF3 but also to a low yield, presumably via a competitive reaction, of a red compound, Re4(NBut)8(μ-O)2(μ3-O)2(OSO2CF3)4, whose X-ray crystal structure has been determined.
The structure has a Re4O4 core comprising oxo-bridged, five- and six-coordinate rhenium centres. The six-coordinate rhenium centres have cis oriented oxo, NBut and η1-O3SCF3 ligands; the five-coordinate centres have pairs of NBut and μ3-O ligands and a μ-O ligand. © 1991.
