Abstract

The synthesis and optical properties of highly mismatched ternary and quaternary II-O-VI alloys were investigated. The combination of O ion implantation and pulsed laser melting was used for the synthesis of the alloys. The synthesis resulted in CdO xTe 1-x thin films with x as high as 0.015, corresponding to a 150 meV reduction in the energy gap. The amount of substitutional O in CdTe was found to increase as the implanted O concentration increased for low doses.
