Synthesis and optical properties of cadmium sulfide/polymer nanocomposite particles

Research output: Chapters, Conference Papers, Creative and Literary Works › RGC 12 - Chapter in an edited book (Author) › peer-review

Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of recent advances in the synthesis and optical properties of cadmium sulfide (CdS)/polymer composite nanoparticles. Examined firstly are major synthetic approaches used for anchoring CdS nanoparticles onto polymer templates. These techniques focus mainly on the improvement of interactions between the polymer matrix and CdS nanoparticles. This can be achieved by attaching functional groups to polymers. Since Cd2+ ions and CdS particles have a large affinity for S, N and O elements, the functional groups should contain these elements for forming composite nanoparticles. The optical properties of synthesized CdS/polymer composite particles including UV-Vis absorption, photoluminescence, photocatalytic and nonlinear optical properties are also presented. © 2010 Woodhead Publishing Limited All rights reserved.
