Abstract

The design and synthesis of new donor-acceptor substituted nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophores possessing large molecular hyperpolarizabilities, chemical and thermal stability were studied primarily because of their potential applications in high speed electro-optic devices. The incorporation of these chromophores into polyimides gives a material which demonstrates high electro-optic coefficients, low optical loss and good temporal stability.
