Symmetric lithium-niobate waveguide fabricated by bonding for mode-division-multiplexing applications

Abstract

We fabricate a symmetric lithium-niobate waveguide that supports six fiber-compatible spatial modes by a bonding process and demonstrate the feasibility of forming vertical directional couplers with such a waveguide for fiber-based mode-division-multiplexing applications.
