Abstract
Sustainable biofuels produced from biomass represent an energy-dense fuel with lower carbon emissions than fossil-based petroleum. The technological environmental economic social and political issues involved in decisions about the selection and transformation of biomass feedstocks into sustainable biofuels are discussed. The most recent progress research and development in this field are considered with special focus to how feedstock availability market demands and policies (e.g. subsidies and regulations) that are implemented at the regional national or multi-national levels may act as an incentive or discourage the production of sustainable biofuels.
