Abstract

The development of the property of superplasticity in aluminum alloys is described. The early work in this area was on binary systems and in particular on eutectic compositions. In recent years, major advances have taken place in developing superplasticity in commercial or advanced aluminum alloys. Included in the advanced aluminum alloys are those based on the high-modulus, low density aluminum-lithium system. Recent work to develop superplasticity in SiC/Al composites is also discussed.
