Sugar Glider Pediatrics

Research output: Journal Publications and ReviewsRGC 22 - Publication in policy or professional journal

Abstract

• Pediatric diseases of sugar gliders are sparsely documented and appear to be uncommon. A thorough understanding of the normal reproductive anatomy and physiology will aid the clinician in diagnosing and treating any abnormal conditions related to breeding and raising young.
• Due to the small size of joeys at birth, close monitoring is challenging and primarily relies on monitoring the health and activity of the dam.
• The best way to ensure the health of the joey is to ensure proper health and nutrition in the parents, specifically the dam, prior to parturition and during lactation.
• Early eviction from the pouch may occur due to a number of factors. In these cases, human intervention and support feeding are indicated.
