Abstract
Subdivision based methods are capable of defining a complex engineering object as a single surface or a volumetric model. Crease features, such as sharp edges, corners and darts, can also be easily embedded on the model surface. Subdivision surfaces have been widely used in the entertainment industry and graphics applications for multi-resolution modeling and animation. In recent years, they are also becoming powerful representations for free-form shape design in the computer aided design community. This talk presents an overview of subdivision-based methods and their applications in design and analysis. Some popular subdivision schemes for surface design and the latest developments on subdivision-based modelling will also be discussed.
