Abstract

The relation between the spectrum spread and modulation depth in a phase modulator was calculated. The frequency spectrum of 0.6328μm light driven by 2.45 GHz microwave at 1 W power was analyzed and observed through experiment, and an expression of modulation depth and microwave power was derived. Finally, by using a grating spectrometer, the 0.13 nm spectrum width at 16 W microwave power was measured. Two measured results were in good agreement.
