Abstract

Mechanical behaviors of the compression and tension for short fiber reinforced composite material-PPS (Polyphenylene sulfide) over a wide range of the strain rates covering six orders of magnitude have been described. The fracture appearance and the cross section of tested specimens were observed. The results show that the strength and Young's modulus of the short fiber reinforced thermoplastic PPS increase with increasing strain rates and reveal that the fracture exhibits brittle behavior. The strain rate effect is remarkable.
