    Abstract

The hypothesis that sophisticated theorizing influences the way people perceive the good life was tested. Data were collected from 110 Hong Kong Chinese. The data indicated that sophisticated theorizing about social problems contributes to the good life. Alternative hypotheses that attribute the effect of sophisticated theorizing to spurious correlation and reverse causation by the good life affecting theorizing sophistication received no support. These findings therefore support the significance of philosophical advocacy.
