Abstract

In this study, ZrO2-8wt.%Y2O3 and Co-32Ni-21Cr-8Al-0.5Y were deposited on Hastelloy X by plasma spraying. The thermal barrier coating was subsequently subjected to thermal cycling and hot corrosion tests. The results showed that the ceramic ZrO2-8wt.%Y2O3 coating layer became slightly denser and remained adherent after the thermal cycling test. Furthermore, microcracks were generated in the ceramic ZrO2-8wt.%Y2O3 coating to relax the thermal strain after the hot corrosion test. © 1987.
