Abstract
Complex systems consist of both software and hardware. While hardware reliability is a welldevelopment area, software reliability is much more difficult to deal with. Software reliability is especially important for safety critical systems when operations are managed and monitored more and more by digital control instruments. For example, many rail and air accidents are traced to the problems with software. Research on software reliability has been going on for a few decades, but few models have been successfully applied in practice. Furthermore, dependability as a concept that integrates reliability, availability, and maintainability, is an even more complex issue. In this talk, we will first review some earlier developments in software and system reliability and discuss some of the issues related to software reliability models with the emphasis on software testing and system reliability analysis. We will also share some views on the modelling and analysis of complex system dependability, and the applications in different fields.
