Abstract

A smart fire detection system for smart buildings has been developed in compliance with the IEEE802.15.4 standard. With the use of this system evacuation procedures have been designed according to the level of the fire hazard. The wireless sensor network is implemented using the Global System for Mobile (GSM) communication so as to detect fires effectively and reduce false positives. In the proposed system a WSN was set up with temperature and smoke sensors. In addition, Short Message Service (SMS) capability via GSM was implemented for the occupants to interact with the fire detection system and aid in the detection of false positives. The fire detection system detects fires effectively and reduces false positives as predicted.
