Abstract
This chapter presents a concise description of the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of the most relevant canine and feline skin and musculoskeletal diseases. The skin and musculoskeletal diseases include burns, chronic pain syndrome, laryngeal paralysis (LP), malignant hyperthermia, myasthenia gravis (MG), myopathies, noninfectious inflammatory joint diseases, osteoarthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and reactive polyarthritis. An emphasis is given to the impact of these diseases on anesthetic management. In some instances, skin and musculoskeletal disease is presented as a secondary complication rather than the main clinical concern. Finally, adequate preanesthetic patient assessment is essential for the successful outcome of any case.
