Abstract

An explicit Whitney element time-domain method for 2-D problems is presented. With the use of a single-matrix formulation, both the CPU time and computer memory requirement are optimized. Additionally, it is shown that the additional resources required by the Whitney technique are only a third of those required by the rectangular FDTD. However, the superior modelling flexibility provided by the Whitney FDTD is found to outweigh the slight increases in CPU and memory requirements.
