Abstract

Single-inductor multiple-output (SIMO) converters with characteristics of small volume, high efficiency and low cost have attracted much attention. However, in order to guarantee cross-regulation performance, existing control strategies increase circuit complexity and cost. This paper proposes a SIMO current source (CS) dc-dc converter based on circuit duality principle. The CS buck converter, which eliminates inductor and has a wide range of duty cycle, is more suited for driving light-emitting-diodes (LEDs). The outputs of the SIMO CS dc-dc converter can be made completely independent by using a constant current feeder. The cross-regulation performance is improved dramatically. The control strategy is simple and practical. Taking the single-inductor dual-output (SIDO) CS dc-dc converter as an example, we study the operating modes and the control method. Finally, experimental circuits have been built and tested.
