Abstract

We present simultaneous noise reduction and data compression using multiresolution decomposition for improving the robustness of three-dimensional (3D) medical ultrasound image reconstruction in this paper. A sequence of 256×256×8 ultrasound images of a Ping-Pang ball in a water tank have been utilized for the 3D image reconstruction. Experimental results show that the distinct features of 3D reconstructed object with the high efficiency data manipulation capability can be obtained from both 60 and 40 slice images after applying the simultaneous noise reduction and data compression scheme in wavelet domain.
